[...S]he made herself a valuable asset to my team. I would recommend her to anyone looking for an experienced professional technical writer with excellent communication skills and a strategic vision for UX improvements."

“Shawna is a highly skilled and experienced Technical Writer and text content producer. She works independently, fast and structured. She has been driving writing projects of varying scope, with constant high quality output.

In her daily work and interaction, Shawna always advocates for the overall impact of documentation and content towards the user journey. Moreover, Shawna has always been keen on introducing and improving documentation infrastructures to implement version control and methodological work around producing textual content, showcasing her technical skills beyond the classical role of a Technical Writer in a document-as-code environment. In addition, she is a skilled stakeholder manager, making sure deadlines are met as well as showing flexibility to cater for unforeseen changes or shifts in priorities.

In a team environment, Shawna is supportive, humble, driven, and an appreciated key contributor.”

“Shawna provided feedback and recommend edits to my resume. Her feedback was very clear and focused on making my resume more concise. I have recently moved from the USA to Sweden and her feedback was very helpful. It matched feedback I have since received from recruiters / hiring managers. Additionally, Shawna is kind and great to work with. I recommend Shawna, especially for those applying for jobs in Sweden coming from another country. Shawna has made this transition and is good at articulating cultural differences. I believe Shawna's advice increased the number of responses I received when applying for jobs.”

“I've worked with Shawna in building the Girls Who Travel digital community, which currently has close to 60,000 members. Shawna is one of the most popular writers on the GWT blog and her straightforward yet imaginative words have a way of drawing people in. Her writing communicates so much without feeling heavy or pretentious. We in the GWT steering team consider her a valuable asset because of her excellent writing as well as her levelheaded approach to community building and development.”

“I worked alongside Shawna for a year at Ringtail Interactive, where she was our technical writer and a talented one, at that. She made release notes and documentation worth reading: precise, clear, and with a dash of personality.

Her eye for detail is excellent and her work was always polished and on time. In fact, more often than not, tasks given to her would come back better than was requested. She also took on marketing work well outside her remit, which the team genuinely felt the benefit of.

I came to documentation with no background in it, and she helped me learn docs-as-code from the ground up. She was always patient, and never made me feel slow or uncomfortable. She’s also very funny, and the type of colleague who notices you’re having a rough day and lands the right meme at the right moment.

Shawna is also impressively fluent in social media and engagement platforms and reads the internet the way good marketers do. She knows what will land and why, is a collector of degrees and skills, and she codes, which I only found out by working alongside her. She follows tech closely and uses tools well, but doesn’t lean on them, and is quick to spot where AI output falls short.

To sum it up, when I worked with Shawna, her title may have said “technical writer,” but it soon became clear that her range is considerably wider and she also happens to be an awesome person on top of that.”
